165. Suitcase: Write about packing for a trip or unpacking from when you arrive home.
My DH2 had been seriously traveling for 25 years before we became a couple so he had honed his packing skills for flexibility and weight. The basic philosophy of travel is not to check a bag unless absolutely necessary so you don’t have to wait at baggage claim and don’t have to worry about the airlines losing anything. The next major point is that you only take a soft-sided duffel bag for the overhead compartment and a day pack for under the seat. In terms of actual items, here is the original list of what to bring on a 2 week trip to the Caribbean:
- quick dry pants
- dress
- shorts (2)
- long sleeve white shirt
- underwear (5)
- t shirts (5)
- bathing suit
- sandals
- tennis shoes
- warm jacket
- hat & sunglasses
- bra (2)
- toiletries
- travel towel
- rain coat and pants
How can you live for 2 weeks with so few things? You wash clothes in the hotel sink. By using packing cubes, you can cram much more into a bag and it’s better organized. When you have lightweight baggage, it’s much easier to walk the 2km to get to your accommodation when you can’t find transportation. I highly recommend this easy packing strategy.
