112. Rushing: Write about moving quickly and doing things fast.
When the kids were in the house, there was always too much to do and I had to figure out how to juggle it all. I disliked most chores but they still needed to be done so I devised schedules to fool myself into doing the tasks. The most effective ploy was “stupid housewife tricks” – the name fashioned after David Letterman’s old “stupid pet tricks” segment. I would list all duties, set a timer for 15 minutes, do a chore and when the timer went off, I moved on to the next chore whether the first one was done or not. This way even when I was doing something hard, boring, or gross, I knew I only had to do it for 15 minutes. It was satisfying when I would cross something off the list and after several rounds of 15 minutes, most of the chores would be done. I still employ this coping method.
