I listen to the podcast of “This American Life” and a regular contributor is David Sedaris. He is a master story-teller and tells his stories in his wildly stylized way. He has a rhythm and cadence that is memorable and entertaining.
When I read his “When You’re engulfed in Flames”, I found that I couldn’t read in my usual manner. I usually read very quickly but reading Sedaris’s words, I found I had to slow down. I heard the story in my head as if Sedaris were telling the story. It made the reading go much slower but I had a full performance with a dry and witty delivery.
It was worth slowing down and enjoying all Sedaris had to offer.
