I have a new favorite movie in the topic of irreverence.
Keri Russell is the 30-something woman who is obsessed the the 1995 British mini-series Pride and Prejudice. Her house is decorated in all things from the Recency era and has no boyfriend other than the fictional Mr. Darcy. Austenland is a Jane Austen theme park that promises an authentic Austen experience complete with a ball that ends in a proposal.
Besides the hilarious circumstances that our heroine finds herself in, it was great to see Bret McKenzie (Flight of the Concords) in an upright and then a despicable role. This was the perfect poke at the world of Jane Austen. Had I not read 3 books already, I would have had no idea what all of the scenarios were lampooning. Knowledge of the genre made this movie wicked fun.
