What have I been reading and watching?
I finished listening to “When You Finish Saving the World” by Jesse Eisenberg. 3 stars.
I finished reading “The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry”by Gabrielle Zevin. 4 stars. I had added this to my “to read” list at Goodreads in 2019. It took this long to be available from the library. I love stories about books. I was a librarian in my youth and spent hours in bookstores and libraries.
I finished “Worm” by Wildbow and J.C. McCrae. This story started as blog posts, became an audiobook reading of the blog posts, and then was distributed via a pod-cast. Son has been heavily invested in this story for years, had discussed it with me, and finally convinced me to listen to it too. It’s the equivalent to 27 novels. I started listening to it in October 2020, listened to it faster than 1.x speed (the speed varied with the narrator for the chapter), and interspersed other material (for book clubs) until today. It’s a super-hero and apocalypse story which isn’t usually my genre but I like consuming my kids’ media to help me understand them e.g. I watched My Little Pony for my then-teen daughter. I’m glad to have listened to this as a connection point with Son.
I’m currently reading “The Boy on the Bridge” by M.R. Carey which is a sequel to “The Girl With All the Gifts” which I loved.
I’m currently listening to “When We Were Vikings” by Andrew David MacDonald.
With my BF, we’re listening to “A Promised Land” by Barack Obama with him as the narrator. Love.
With my BF, we’re watching “Ted Lasso” and “Better Call Saul.” Talk about opposite stories! Both are well written but I feel good after watching a “Ted Lasso” episode and slimy after “Better Call Saul.” There are no characters on the latter that I like.
On my own, I’m watching “Invisible City” on Netflix. It’s a Brazilian version of “American Gods” – it’s ok, not great. Hulu doesn’t work here in AU 🙁 .
And then I watch Tiktok videos – Ha! Silly fun.
