Our aurora lecture this morning, courtesy of the Geophysical Institute, focused on the magnetic field in generating the sky event. There is a lot of research bring done on the aurora, and where better than it to be done than northern Alaska?
We visited the Institute for Arctic Biology, Large Animal Research Center. It, like most things are part of the university. They study caribou and muskox in the areas of nutrition, reproduction and behavior. Fascinating creatures.
The Museum of the North was a combination natural history museum and art museum. The architecture of the building was spacious and it overlooked Fairbanks, on the university campus.
The aurora was barely visible, but enough to make sister happy. It was not anything as big as the light show we has on Saturday though. Our last night, our last opportunity to see the northern lights.
